Epistemology
Epistemology deals with the nature and derivation of valid knowledge. A proper epistemology is essential to our quest for two reasons:
- Human action is dependent on the beliefs (valid or invalid) of
acting human beings—that is, on their state of
knowledge;
- We ourselves require a proper methodology to acquire a valid
understanding (i. e., knowledge) of such action.
By knowledge we mean the mental grasp of some aspect of reality. The process or methodology by which we arrive at knowledge is logic—a term whose meaning we must now examine more closely.
