Human action in particular arises from human beings as the active agents. To attempt to explain human behavior without first examining the nature of human beings and why they act would be a futile endeavor. Therefore we shall follow a step-by-step approach, proceeding from cause to effect:
- We shall first identify the acting entity. Section 2 will
inquire into whether human action arises from individual
purposes, from some kind of social purpose or will, or from
some combination of these.
- Later in Section 2, we shall look more closely at the nature
of purpose itself.
- Sections 3, 4, and 5 will trace methodically how human purpose
organizes human activity, eventually including such phenomena
as production (leading to wealth), markets, social
interaction, and political organization.
