Facts Not Explained by Methodological Collectivism
(optional material, p. 5)
What causes voter apathy? If voters, as a group, would benefit greatly by educating themselves ("itself"?) and then voting en masse for the common good, then why do they not do so in practice?
Why does "society" frequently regulate its industry in such a way as to benefit only the rich and powerful segment of itself?
Why do so many groups clamor for subsidies in a mixed economy, when clearly all would benefit if such subsidies were eliminated? Why does "the people" thus act against its own interest?
What causes crime and violence? The collectivist attributes violence to a "proliferation of handguns." What then motivates "society" to use handguns against part of itself? (Section 5 will identify at least nine factors leading to crime and violence in a social system such as our own. These factorsand their destructive consequenceswill be shown to be predictable, even inevitable in such a society, provided that one understands that action originates in the individual.)
If "the people" acts as one, then what causes legislative "gridlock"? Furthermore, why does it become more pronounced as a government becomes more interventionist?
