POLITICAL SYSTEMS
Although Section 4 addressed both positive and negative effects of government action on the marketplace, we have not yet inquired into the internal structure or dynamics of governments. This final section of the course will examine the nature of government and will classify and compare different kinds of governments. In order to determine what types of political systems are stable and viable in the long run, we shall investigate the natural proclivities of various systems, observing mutual causal influences among government, economy, culture, and popular attitudes, and tracing how all of them tend to develop over time under a particular political system. In the final subsections, we shall evaluate what kind of political system best accords with the moral and practical requirements of human life and well-being and what kind of actions will be needed to bring such a system into existence.
A brief overview of this section appears in the three following pages. The student is encouraged to print a copy for future reference.
