Jim Peron, in an excellent essay, available online and entitled "Faith of Our Fathers: The Unbelief of America's Founding Fathers," provides numerous citations demonstrating that the outlook of the founders was overwhelmingly secular, that few of them were orthodox Christians and most tended to be skeptical of organized religion, and that the Constitution was independent of religious principles and for that reason was condemned by the Religious Right of that day.
